He was with Time Warner Cable and was offering basic cable for $9.95 a month for the first year.
Before the switch to digital we could get all PBS stations, Lima 35 (NBC) and CBS if we were lucky. After the switch - PBS. Period. Ugh.
So, we are joining the cable network again. Unfortunately because we're bundling basic cable with internet, we will not get the $9.95 price, but we are getting rid of our home phone and will actually be saving $20 a month doing everything this way. Suuuuuuuuuwwweeeet!
(Random poll: Do you have a home phone or do you use your cell phone as your main number?)
Hopefully the gentleman who sold us the package gets a good kickback for it. I do not envy his job AT ALL.

That IS a sweet deal!!
We still have a home phone but we keep going back and forth on what to do with it.
We kept it and it is just very basic. No long distance or caller ID or anything. I was surprised how much it does cost for even the most basic of phone services.
Why we have kept it:
1) I don't like to use our cell phones for credit cards or other solictors. We let everything go to our home phone and that keeps our cell phones free of random calls.
2) In case of emergencies. This just happened recently. My sister was gone for the weekend and took the phone charger we share. I forgot to charge my phone before she left. It was 11:30 at night and T. was in Findlay & trying to get ahold of me and my phone was dead. He called the home phone. It was nice to have a back up.
3)I just can't get rid of a home phone, at least not yet. Just seems like we SHOULD have one, you know?! Though I am sure we do not:)
We haven't had a home phone in about 5 years. So far, it hasn't caused any problems and we haven't missed it.
As far as random calls go, we don't get any on our cell phones. We're on the Do Not Call List and we just don't give a number when asked by people we don't want to call us, i.e. stores that ask you at checkout.
Same as A. No home phone, no soliciting done on either of our cell phones.
