Revolver

We ate at a delicious restaurant downtown tonight - Revolver. It was a Father's Day/Anniversary gift for my hubby. It's a very hip place. Clean, modern lines, awesome square plates, natural elements. The picture is of glass tiles like the ones they had underneath the bar and on one of the walls. The restaurant uses all organic foods, locally grown. The menu is always changing because what is available is different all of the time.

Oh man, it was so good. They bring you a muse, which was popcorn soup with paprika sprinkled on top. It sounds weird, but it was delicious, buttery, smooth. Mmmmm... then they bring you bread. Tonight's happened to be a home made wheat roll that had butter and salt in the gooey middle. Ryan got a locally grown strawberry salad with greens and balsamic vinegar reduction for an appetizer. I got a grilled zucchini bread sandwich with goat cheese and some sort of sauce (I can't remember). It was delicious. For our entree we both opted for pork - Ryan's was a pork tenderloin on a bed of wheat berry risotto with roasted beets. Mine was braised pork wrapped in home made pasta shell with a carrot reduction sauce and roasted cauliflower. The entire meal was washed down with a delicious light beer from Great Lakes Brewery.
That, in my mind, is how eating out should be. We should save up our money to be able to treat ourselves to Revolver every couple of months.

Do you guys have any favorite unique restaurants? If so, what do you like to get there?

Check out this article in the Wall Street Journal about Revolver. I have eaten there once, and it easily ranked in my top 5 best meals of my life.

No crazy restaurant, but we have a crazy ice cream store called Jeni's. She is an art student turned ice cream maker. My first and only time I have been there so far I got Thai Chili ice cream which consisted of peanut butter, coconut, and cayenne pepper. It was really good and creamy with an interesting twist at the end. The coolest part is that she makes her own ice cream and buys locally from farmers.

reasons why i love Revolver, that i've noticed just by passing by the restaurant and from your post:
1). they have teak furniture (like my grandma's)
2). paprika reminds me of my grandma.
3). great lakes is my favorite brewing co.
4). the food sounds awesome and it just looks like a totally cool place.

That sounds AWESOME Dri. Of course my mind immediately goes to: How do they make a carrot reduction sauce? HA!
